"Love Garlic? Grow Your Own!"

The Silver Spring Timebank presents a Virtual Chat with the Garlic Guru.Sunday, October 15, 2023, 4pm-6 on Zoom. Free and open to the public.

Are you a garlic fan? Have you tried to grow your own, with mixed results? Even if you have no gardening aspirations, join us to learn more about your favorite allium, get your questions answered, and maybe even share a recipe or two.

Your host for this Virtual Social is Tony Sarmiento, backyard gardener of garlic, tomatoes, and other vegetables in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, for more than 30 years.

Tagged as a “Garlic Guru” by the Washington Post in 2018, Tony is a full time pensioner retired from the national AFL-CIO -- and a Silver Spring Timebank member.

Tony's hardneck garlic has won Blue Ribbons at the Maryland State Fair and Montgomery County Fair. But his backyard is so small that he has time to serve on the board of the Charles Koiner Conservancy for Urban Farming. (The CKC was created in 2018 to protect an iconic urban farm in downtown Silver Spring and to establish a network of neighborhood farms, supporting a more sustainable and resilient local food system.)

Whether you're a backyard gardener, a local farmer, or just someone who loves garlic, you'll enjoy this Timebank Social.
